It also provides another opportunity for you to increase your writing skills. Skills: By completing this assignment, you will be able to increase your critical thinking and writing skills. Description: Your final assignment will be to write a one to two page book review of the assigned supplemental readings (i.e., cognitive dissonance/self-perception, detecting deceit, and why common sense goes out the window). This review should include a general review of the readings, as well as your personal thoughts and reflections on them. Requirements: Your should include a general review of the three articles you read during the last week of the term, as well as your personal thoughts and reflections on them. You may want to answer questions such as…What was your general take of this approach? What, if anything did you learn from the different readings? Do you believe it helped to stress the critical thinking aspect of the course? Do you think they were a good compliment to the Stanovich book? When completing your review, indicate the issue(s) which stood out to you as being most relevant to the topic of critical thinking. Please aim to provide an honest review of these articles. If you enjoyed reading them, great. If you did not, or felt that they were not relevant to the course, then please indicate that as well. You do not need to include a reference page or citation for this assignment. Grading: This assignment is worth 20 points. You will be scored on the degree to which you have reviewed the articles, and provided honest thoughts (positive or negative) on them. The readings of the past week were enlightening and helped me understand the research concept. Starting from the reading on cognitive dissonance, I would say that I have experienced this psychological tension many times. I believe it is unavoidable; this is how we explore new ideas, but the conflict between our beliefs, attitudes, and actions is frustrating. This article clearly explained this phenomenon. The experiment was the most intriguing, after which Festinger and Carlsmith deduced that people could change their attitudes or behavior to reduce psychological tension. Their experiment was relatable; it was a reward system that turned the tables and actually affected our perception and justification of our acts. Cognitive dissonance might lead us to explore ourselves and our behaviors.
